If you have ceiling speakers set up and wish to connect them to your soundbar, you have come to the right place. Connecting the soundbar to the ceiling speaker is, in one aspect, similar to connecting the normal speakers and subwoofers with the soundbar. But at the same time, there are several aspects to be considered while you pair them together. After connecting the ceiling speakers with your soundbar, you can experience the sound effects evenly throughout your living room.
The different methods of connecting the speaker with the soundbar are clearly explained in this article. You are free to choose the best option that feels more convenient and suitable for your needs.
Things to Consider While Connecting Ceiling Speakers to Soundbar
Since the speakers are not as accessible as the ones mounted on the walls or placed at a reachable height, you have to be extra careful. A small error in the process will create a great impact and might negatively affect the audio quality.
- Ensure that the ceiling speakers are set up on firm and spacious steel stands. Only then will you be able to access them properly.
- Be open to trying different connection techniques. Choose the best one that suits your setup to get the best audio output.
- Have the user manual ready at hand. Look for special mentions about connectivity and follow as instructed to make sure you do not cause any damage to the system.
How to Connect the Ceiling Speaker to the Soundbar Wirelessly
There are several possible ways to connect the ceiling speaker to the soundbar according to the connectivity options available on the devices. Some might come with support for wireless connection, while others do not. When it comes to wireless connection, you can either go with the good old Bluetooth or choose to connect them over a wireless router.
Connect Using Bluetooth
One of the most effective and simplest ways to connect the ceiling speakers to your soundbar is through the wireless Bluetooth option. This reduces the risk of creating a physical connection between the speakers and soundbar placed at such a great distance from each other.
If your ceiling speaker or your soundbar lacks the Bluetooth feature, you can use a Bluetooth adapter to ensure it gets wireless connectivity. After that, put both the speaker and soundbar on pairing mode and the devices will pair with each other automatically.
The only thing to consider while connecting the devices through Bluetooth is that they should be within a specific range, typically less than 30 feet from each other. If placed any further away, there will be issues with the connectivity, and you will not be able to experience the audio properly.
Tip! In recent times, several advanced speakers and soundbars with a much higher Bluetooth range have been made. If you have one of those, then it extends up to 40 meters.
Using a Wireless Router
The WiFi connection setup at home will act as the wireless router, so there isn’t much you need to do. Ensure both your speakers and soundbar have WiFi connectivity options and connect them both to the same WiFi network.
During this process, disconnect all the other cables and USBs connected to the audio system. At the same time, if the devices do not have WiFi support, make use of a WiFi adapter to get the soundbar and ceiling speakers connected and work together.
Note: To connect your soundbar and ceiling speakers via WiFi, you’ll need a reputed soundbar remote app (WiFi-enabled). After installing the remote app on your smartphone, you can easily connect the devices via WiFi.
How to Connect the Ceiling Speaker to the Soundbar Using Audio Cables
While connecting the ceiling speakers with the soundbar wireless is more convenient and less time-consuming, you can always choose to pair them using wires. According to the connectivity options available on your devices, you can choose an HDMI, Optical, or AUX cable to connect them together.
Connect Using HDMI Cable
If your ceiling speaker and soundbar have HDMI ARC connection ports, you can connect the ceiling speakers to the soundbar using an HDMI cable. When connected through this method, the audio output quality will be better and clearer when compared with others.
Get a proper and working HDMI cable. Connect it to the right HDMI ports of both the speaker and the soundbar. Enable Anynet+ on the soundbar if the option is available for the device. All you need to do is press the Anynet+ button on the remote for a few seconds to activate it.
Note: Anynet+ is Samsung’s trading term for the HDMI-CEC feature. Using this feature, you can connect your Samsung Soundbar to a TV and other devices. Meanwhile, other model soundbars have different names instead of Anynet+, including CEC (Simplink) and others.
Connect Using Optical Cable
You can connect the ceiling speakers to the soundbar using the optical cable (Fiber-optic cable). In order to do that, you need to have a digital-to-analog converter. This will convert the digital audio output into analog RCA output. You can also use a TOSLink optical audio cable to connect the wires properly.
1. First, remove the cap covering the optical cable and connect it to both the speaker and the soundbar. Ensure that the cable is inserted in its appropriate optical coax port on the devices.
2. After connecting the optical cable to the devices, power on the devices. The speakers will start producing signals.
3. Press the Source button or the Pair button on both the speaker and soundbar. This will initiate the pairing process, and the devices will connect with each other.
4. Once connected, the signals from the speaker will also be connected to your entire audio system.
Connect Using AUX Cable
Some of the ceiling speakers or soundbars do not come with support for wireless connection. If you are not able to connect through Bluetooth, then go with a wired connection.
1. Check if your speakers and soundbar have a 3.5mm AUX port. If it does, locate the ports.
2. Take one end of an AUX cable and insert it into the AUX IN port of your soundbar.
3. Now, take the other end of the AUX cable and plug it into the AUX OUT port of the speaker.
After connecting the ceiling speakers to the soundbar, you can continue to have the best audio experience.
Note: Auxillary cables will give you less sound experience compared to HDMI and optical cables when connected to ceiling speakers.
