Sometimes, the Vizio Soundbar malfunctions and produces no sound at all. Just like any other electronics, you can troubleshoot the Vizio Soundbar and get it back to normalcy. This problem occurs due to wiring problems, incompatibility issues, or minor bugs or errors. The good news is that users themselves can solve it by following a set of workarounds along with its user manual. The solutions that I’ve provided are tried and tested on several models of Vizio Soundbar.
If you are facing this issue, follow this article. Here, I’ve provided all the possible methods to fix the no-sound issue on your Vizio Soundbar. Moreover, this procedure can be applied to all Vizio Soundbars models.
Reasons for No Sound in Vizio Soundbar
As already mentioned, there could be many reasons your Vizio soundbar produces no sound at all. Some of the most probable causes are given below.
- Damaged Power Cables
- Incorrect or Incompatible Audio Settings
- Problems with connection ports
- The soundbar is running outdated soundbar firmware
- Hardware issues
How to Fix the No Sound Issue on Vizio Soundbar
The following are the various methods to fix the no-sound issue on your Vizio Soundbar. Do the methods in the same order so as not to do any drastic methods in the beginning.
Check Power Cables
This is the most basic thing to look into while solving the no-sound issue on your Vizio Soundbar. If your Vizio Soundbar is getting insufficient power or if the power cables connected to it are damaged, then it won’t be able to produce any sound. To verify, check the power cable connected to it and look for any visible signs of damage. If there are any, replace the power cables with a newer one. If you are still unable to see any power light on your soundbar, connect it to another power socket and check.
After this, turn on your Vizio Soundbar and start playing any music. If you hear no sound, then proceed to the next step.
Note: In some instances, connecting your soundbar to another power socket can solve the issue.
Check Soundbar Remote
Every Vizio Soundbar comes with an in-box remote control with which you can control it. It has options to turn it on, change the volume, switch modes, mute, etc. Think of an instance where your soundbar is set to Mute, and you are unable to increase its volume because your Vizio Soundbar remote is not working. In such a scenario, try power cycling your remote as a preliminary solution. To do this,
1. Remove the batteries from your soundbar’s remote and wait for a few seconds.
2. After this, check every button attached to it; insert the batteries back into it and complete the power cycle.
You can also try resetting its remote which involves holding its Volume down and Mute buttons for some time and releasing it. Now, its remote will reset itself and then restart.
Once you’ve tried both the workarounds, increase the soundbar’s volume and check if the issue has been solved.
NOTE: If your Soundbar has the Volume +/- buttons attached to it, use them instead.
Select Correct Audio Settings
Having an incorrect audio setting can hamper the performance of your Vizio Soundbar. Vizio Soundbar comes with several presets like Movie, Direct, etc. Choose a preset in which you can hear good audio. For example, if you are using a Vizio 5.1 soundbar and are watching a movie with native 5.1 capability, keep preset to Direct instead of Movie. In this way, you can avoid mapping issues. If you are playing regular audio, you can switch to Music or Movie mode, which will replicate ‘Surround Sound.’
In addition to that, try changing your soundbar’s Bass, Treble, and Volume through its remote control. Try shuffling through all the options until you hear sound from your Vizio soundbar. But, if you are still unable to hear anything, go to the next workaround.
Tip! If your soundbar’s power light starts blinking for no reason, it is an indication of an incorrect audio setting.
Power Cycle Vizio Soundbar
Power cycling can solve minor technical issues. By doing a power cycle of the Vizio Soundbar, all its residual charges get erased, and your soundbar will be able to function normally. The procedure to do it is given below.
1. Cut off the power supply to your Vizio Soundbar and unplug all the connections from it.
2. Then, wait for a few seconds; press and hold the power button on your soundbar for at least 30 seconds.
3. Wait for a few winks before turning on the power supply to it.
4. Now, turn on and connect the Vizio Soundbar to the TV.
5. Play the content you want and hear it through your Vizio Soundbar.
Tip! You can also power cycle the TV or any device connected to your soundbar.
If you are unable to hear any sound on your Vizio device, then proceed to the next step.
Check Bluetooth Connectivity
If you have connected Vizio Soundbar to your smartphone and are unable to play it over Bluetooth, then follow the workarounds provided below.
- Disconnect your Smartphone/TV from Vizio Soundbar and reconnect both devices via Bluetooth.
- If you are still unable to play over Bluetooth, disconnect other Bluetooth connections near your Soundbar and play any songs. The reason we do this is that unnecessary Bluetooth traffic can cause interruptions.
After this, play any songs and solve the no-sound issue on your Vizio Soundbar. But, if the issue persists, then proceed to the next workaround.
Check HDMI ARC
To connect the Vizio Soundbar to your TV via HDMI, you need to connect it to the HDMI ARC port of your TV. Ensure that your TV has an HDMI ARC port in it. Or else you won’t be able to hear any sound from your soundbar. The procedure to do this is given below.
1. Take the HDMI cable that came along with the box and connect one end of it to your Vizio Soundbar.
2. Connect the other end to the HDMI ARC port of your TV. The port looks similar to the picture provided below.
3. After connecting both devices, turn on both devices.
4. Go to the Settings of your TV and look for the ARC option to enable it. Only after enabling ARC, your TV could be able to transmit audio.
5. After this, play the song of your choice and hear it through your soundbar.
6. If you are still unable to hear any songs on your Vizio Soundbar, then remove the HDMI cable and connect it via Optical/Aux/RCA wires. But, if you are unable to hear sound through any connection, then you need to update your Vizio Soundbar.
Update Vizio Soundbar
If you have not updated, then update your Vizio Soundbar’s Firmware. By updating it, your soundbar becomes compatible with many audio formats, and minor glitches in it will be rectified. However, if not, your soundbar will start facing an array of problems, including the no-sound issue. To do this,
1. Turn on your Vizio Soundbar and connect it to a stable WIFI network.
2. Install the Vizio SmartCast app on your smartphone and connect it to the same internet as your soundbar.
3. After this, your soundbar will go into pairing mode, and its LED light will start to cycle.
4. Now, launch the Vizio SmartCast app; click on the Devices Settings option and select Add New Device.
5. Follow the upcoming instructions and pair both devices. Once paired, your Vizio Soundbar will look for updates and update its firmware automatically.
After updation, reconnect your Soundbar to your TV or any other device and play any song. You’ll most probably be able to hear the song in its finest quality. If not, proceed to the next step.
Change Streaming Device
What if the problem is with the device from which you are streaming songs or any other music? To test this, remove the existing connections and connect your soundbar to any other compatible devices. For example, if you have connected a soundbar to your TV, remove it, then connect the Vizio Soundbar to Roku or any other associated streaming devices.
If your soundbar plays sound upon connecting it to other devices, then the problem has to be with the device it is originally connected to. Therefore, leave out your Vizio Soundbar and repair the streaming device.
Reset Vizio Soundbar
A factory reset of your Vizio Soundbar deletes all the data saved on it. This includes settings, WIFI Audio Settings, etc. Additionally, this method will also delete all the minor bugs and errors that have been causing the no sound issue on your Vizio Soundbar. It is recommended to use this method only as a last resort. The procedure to factory reset the Vizio Soundbar is given below.
1. Turn on the power supply to your Vizio Soundbar.
2. Look for the Volume Down and Bluetooth buttons provided on it. Press and hold those buttons together for at least 5 seconds.
Tip! In certain models, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons instead.
3. Release those buttons once your soundbar’s input light flashes thrice.
4. Now, your Vizio Soundbar would have undergone a factory reset.
5. After this, set up your Vizio Soundbar; connect it to your TV or Smartphone and start playing any song. High chance that you’ll be able to hear sound from your soundbar.
Vizio Soundbar Hardware Issue
Even after doing a factory reset, if you are still unable to solve the issue, then there could be an underlying hardware issue. Most common hardware issues include Voice Coil repair or Power Board fluctuations. If you are not tech-savvy, don’t try to repair those parts on your own. As these parts are quite fragile and intricate, there is always a chance that something could be misplaced. You can contact Vizio Customer Support via their website for aid. They will help you with both software and hardware issues.
